Magnitude 6.8 Earthquake Hits 62 km SSW Of San Pedro de Atacama,Chile

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 jolted 62 km SSW of San Pedro de Atacama, Chile at 07:35 GMT on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. 

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Chile is situated in the easternmost part of the Ring of Fire, a seismically active zone in the Pacific Ocean, where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur, including powerful ones. 

Last year, a powerful tremor hit near the Chilean capital of Santiago, damaging roads and some buildings in the city.

Magnitude 4 quake jolts Turkey’s Mediterranean region

A magnitude 4 earthquake jolted Turkey’s Mediterranean region on Wednesday morning, according to the nation’s disaster agency.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said the quake struck off the coast of the Kas district in Turkey’s southwestern province of Antalya at 8.20 a.m. local time (0520GMT).

The tremors occurred 92 kilometers (57 miles) away from Kas, with a 42-kilometer (26-mile) depth.

Also, 5.2 magnitude earthquake was reported by USGS today 74 km SSE of Ierápetra, Greece at 2020-06-03 09:03:29 (UTC).
