Amazon Prime To Make All Four Of Its Remaining Premier League Matches Free To Air

Amazon Prime has announced it will make all four of its remaining Premier League matches this season free to air.

It means 33 of the 92 remaining top-flight games this season, to be shared between Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime and the BBC, can now be viewed without a subscription.

The Premier League is set to restart on June 17 with Manchester City vs Arsenal and Aston Villa vs Sheffield United after the campaign was shut down in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Amazon had 20 games earlier in the season and they will show a further four in June and July

Of the final 92 Premier League matches of the season, Sky will broadcast 64, with 25 to be made freely available - including Everton vs Liverpool on the first weekend back.

The 25 free-to-air games on Sky will be made available via Sky’s ‘Pick’ channel and simulcast on Sky Sports.

The BBC will air four live games - it is currently unknown which - alongside their usual weekly highlights Match of the Day programme, and BT Sport will show a total of 20 live matches.

Amazon burst onto the Premier League scenes earlier in the season with rights to two rounds of fixtures, one in early December and the other just after Christmas.

The US tech giants agreed a three-year deal worth £30million per year with the Premier League in 2018 to stream 20 matches per season.

They impressed with their clean broadcasting format and high-profile pundits, such as Thierry Henry, Roberto Martinez and Harry Redknapp.

Liverpool’s thumping win over Leicester on Boxing Day was one of Amazon Prime’s matches

Alex Green, managing director of Prime Video Sport Europe, said: ‘Like the rest of the country, we are excited to see the Premier League return to action.

‘We will be making all four of Amazon Prime Video’s additional fixtures in the 2019/20 season available free of charge; fans will not need a Prime membership to view the games on Prime Video.’

Although we know that Amazon have the rights to four matches of the final 92, it is still not clear which games they will be.

Planned kick-off times in the UK for live matches will also differ from traditional times on the Premier League’s return in a bid to give the football starved population as much action as possible.

There are four different time-slots on a Saturday and Sunday stretching from 12pm-8pm, as well as 6pm and 8pm kick-off times for midweek games.
